Naturalist Jack Olzewski will lead weekly bird walks along the hiking trails at Renfrew Park. Walks begin at Renfrew’s lower parking lot off Welty Road. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and may bring identification books and binoculars. Free and open to the public.
“Come along with us as we ‘SOAR’—Study Ornithology at Renfrew,” said naturalist Jack Olszewski, who is entering his ninth year of leading the walks.
Olszewski has enjoyed a life-long passion for birding, first inspired by watching shore birds during his childhood. As an adult, he worked for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, primarily rehabilitating wild birds, including eagles.
Olszewski has spotted and photographed many birds locally. “More than 60 species have been noted in Renfrew Park during the past several years,” he said.
Note—Off-site Birding Field Trips: A couple of off-site birding trips may be arranged with walkers during Saturday morning sessions. These are usually the first two Saturdays in June.
Beginning in September, Larry and Sharon Williams will lead bird walks on the first and third Saturdays throughout fall and winter.
