Guidelines for Visitors—Grounds Open During Daylight Hours
Buttonwood Nature Center opened to the public on June 21, 2025. The administrative office is open by appointment only, but the trails and grounds are open to the public during daylight hours, year-round. For the safety and comfort of all our visitors, please abide by the following rules as you enjoy our trails, meadows and by-ways: • Dogs must be on leash at all times (see our Buttonwood Buddies info below) • No smoking or vaping • No public fishing in the pond or creek • No ATVs, bikes or motorized vehicles on the trails • Carry In-Carry Out—trash, dog waste and refuse • Do not remove rocks, soil or any natural item from the property
Inclement Weather Policy
• In the event of inclement or threatening weather, check with our Facebook page to make sure an advertised event is happening. Some events are “rain or shine” while others have a rain location; still others must be postponed or cancelled in the event of rain or snow.
• For Water Striders: if area schools are closed, Water Striders activities will be cancelled. • See our weather/cancellation policy for School Programs/Field Trips only.
Nondiscrimination Policy
Buttonwood Nature Center does not exclude, deny benefits to, or otherwise discriminate against any student, program participant, applicant, staff, volunteer or the general public on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, political affiliation, or religion in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarships and Buttonwood/Institute administered activities.
