Spring Speaker Series: The Secret Life of Insects #2

March 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

What’s the Buzz?

Bee (Apis mellifera) pollinates a yellow blossom
The second of three programs in our Spring Speaker Series. The programs are free and open to all.

Kay Deardorff (aka Polly Nator) grew up as a beekeeper’s daughter and is now the wife of a beekeeper who has been keeping bees for 18+ years.  As a former elementary school teacher, Kay loves any opportunity to share the value of one of nature’s greatest pollinators, the honeybee.  In her presentation she will share information about the function of all the bees within the hive: the jobs of the workers, drones, and queen as well as various other aspects of these unique creations.

How does the beekeeper make that sweet treat known as honey?  The beekeeper doesn’t do it—the bees do!  Come to the meeting to discover why the thought of eating regurgitated nectar, aka honey, isn’t yucky after all!

The Spring Speaker Series is underwritten by Grace and Robert Brown.
Additional support in part by Marge Kiersz, Lucinda D. Potter, CPA, and SEK CPAs & Advisors, and by our Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; the late Alma W. Oyer; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
