StoryWalk® Sundays—March 2022

March 20, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Our March 13 StoryWalk® Sunday was postponed due to the weather. The event has been rescheduled for March 20.

Our series of StoryWalk® Sunday adventures for kids continues in March.

The story posted on the StoryWalk® trail at Pine Hill Park will change monthly, and plans call for a special event to accompany each one on the second Sunday of each month.

March’s storybook is “The Wind Blew” by Pat Hutchins, a rhymed tale describing the antics of a capricious wind.

“The wind blew, and blew, and blew! It blew so hard, it took everything with it: Mr. White’s umbrella, Priscilla’s balloon, the twins’ scarves, even the wig on the judge’s head. But just when the wind was about to carry everything out to sea, it changed its mind!”

“With rhyming verse and colorful illustrations, Pat Hutchins’ book about the wind is perfect for March,” said Pam Rowland, The Institute’s education director

Led by Institute faculty member, Beth Skroban, kids will enjoy a guided walk along the story trail as they read the book, then make a special craft project to take home—and warm up with a campfire and yummy s’mores!

The event is FREE, but pre-registration is required by March 11. To register, email to: [email protected] or call 717-762-0373. Limited to 20 children.

Children in grades K–5 may be dropped off and picked up at 3 p.m. All families are welcome, but activities are geared for preschool and elementary age kids.

The stories posted on the StoryWalk® trail at Pine Hill Park will change monthly, with plans for a special event to accompany each one on the second Sunday of the month. Next month, the StoryWalk® Sunday event will be on the first Sunday—April 3, and the book will be “Our Big Home” by Linda Glaser.

Current COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.

Pine Hill’s StoryWalk® trail, an Institute project, was funded in part by Summit Endowment, Marge Kiersz and Rouzerville Business Association, with in-kind support from Washington Township, Hopewell Manufacturing, Waynesboro Area School District “Be the Village,” and Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library.

Additional support is from The Institute’s Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation, The John R. Hershey Jr. and Anna L. Hershey Family Foundation, Alma W. Oyer, APX Enclosures, Inc., and The Carolyn Terry Eddy Family: Carolyn, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin. Facility support courtesy of Washington Township

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
