Textile Arts Summer Camp

July 30 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until August 2, 2024

Five days from Monday through Friday, July 29–August 2 at Pine Hill Recreation Area near Waynesboro, Pa.

The Textile Arts camp is designed for students who have completed grade 3 through age 17.
Students should pack a lunch and beverage.

Instruction from Buttonwood educator, Beth Skroban, who is a master weaver and textiles expert.

During the five-day camp, students will choose what color to dye a skein of yarn for a weaving project, and learn how to dye the yarn. They will each make a unique potholder to take home, and also learn about methods of felting wool. They will use “wet felting” to create a useful felted container. They will learn “needle felting” and create their own needle-felted name tag or decorative pin.

Over the course of two or three days, students will work on their major weaving project. Using individual table looms, students will create a beautiful infinity scarf or cowl with their own dyed yarn.

All materials are included in the camp fee, and each student will take home their completed projects.

For students completing grade 3 through age 17. Camp fee: $225 for members of Buttonwood Nature Center/The Institute, and $230 general public. Fee includes all materials.

Enrollment limited to 6. Deadline to register: July 22.

Underwriting support is from our Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; Marge Kiersz; Alma W. Oyer; and the Carolyn Terry Eddy Family: Carolyn, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin. Facility support courtesy of Washington Township.
