StoryWalk® Sunday—August 2025
Held at Pine Hill Recreation Area near Waynesboro, Pa.
Our guided walks along the StoryWalk® trail continue…
NEW for 2025, special events will happen four times a year to mark the season. Each StoryWalk® event celebrates the new season in a fun and meaningful way with extra fun and special activities.
The August StoryWalk® event celebrates magical summer nights full of fireflies. This is our first EVENING StoryWalk®!
Join Buttonwood for an evening with the fireflies! The evening will begin with a lantern-lighted walk along the trails as we read Fireflies, Fireflies, Light my Way by Jonathan London.
After the story, we will convene at the fire pit for some summer s’mores!
Inspired by a Native American lullaby, Fireflies, Fireflies, Light my Way is a lyrical story illustrated with luminous paintings by Linda Messier. It is an irresistible invitation to children to follow the fireflies to a magical nighttime place where turtles play, bullfrogs leap, and animals swim.
Paintings and rhymes combine to entertain the reader while reflecting an appreciation of the interconnectedness of life.
The event is FREE and registration is not required. For more information, email to: info@buttonwoodnaturecenter.org or call 717-762-0373.
All families are welcome, but activities are geared for preschool and elementary age kids.
Beginning in 2025, the stories posted on the StoryWalk® trail at Pine Hill Park will change every two months, with a special StoryWalk event scheduled to mark each season.
Pine Hill’s StoryWalk® trail, a Buttonwood/Institute project, was funded in part by Summit Endowment, Marge Kiersz and Rouzerville Business Association, with in-kind support from Washington Township, Hopewell Manufacturing, Waynesboro Area School District “Be the Village,” and Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library.

Facility support courtesy of Washington Township.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
