Held at Pine Hill Recreation Area near Waynesboro, Pa.

Art will be woven together with nature during a new summer day camp.

The Textile Arts and Nature camp is on Wednesday, July 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to kids completing grades grade 3 through age 17.

Students will learn skills with textiles such as wet felting and weaving, along with a hike and several nature activities as they learn to connect textiles to nature.

In the morning, master weaver and Buttonwood educator Beth Skroban will guide students as they learn wet felting and create a small useful vessel. Students will next learn weaving on an individual table loom and create a woven table runner.

After a lunch break, campers are off into the woods for a “color walk” along one of the park trails with Buttonwood educator/naturalists Shawna Kauffman and Mary Claire King. The camp will end with a workshop making marbleized paper using plant-based dyes.

No experience is necessary. Each student will take home their completed projects. Students should pack a lunch and beverage.

The camp fee is $60 for members of Buttonwood Nature Center/The Institute, and $65 for the general public. This fee includes a $10 materials fee. All materials are provided and students will take home their projects.

Underwriting support is from our Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; the late Alma W. Oyer; Marge Kiersz; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
